October 2020 ... La Piccola a lot of new projects

Despite the Covid 19, one of the reason for which I love my wargame club is that every person is free to share his interest with others.

For example Valerio and his group are continuing their develop of new Improved Panzer Leader scenarios

Other club mates, as Nevio, can see their efforts published. The "Black Sheep" ... a new role play manual

Another group continue his work on Italian Independence wars

While others play naval fights between English and Italian navy during Ww2 ...

... or work to convert Perry miniatures for new army and battles ...

... or prepare new scenic elements to test new rule systems

Paolo and Alberto Castelfidardo battle book

In the last years part of my club mates are involved to create new rule sets for wargame. Thanks to Paolo Montinaro's initiative and the help of many others ... Alberto, Davide, Emanuele, Valter, Francesco, Franco Be., Franco Bo., Massimo and Giovanni ... some years ago, Paolo published with Chillemi Editore his first wargame: "Garibaldini all'attacco!"

Garibaldini all'attacco! is a rules set inspired to Italian independence wars ... a period only partially explored by the wargamer players and for which Paolo and the other friends of mine studied the original documents till arriving two years ago to publish a new supplement.

Below the link to Chillemi Edition in which is possible to find Garibaldini all'attacco!

For this reason I wasn't surprised when Paul told me that, with Alberto Morera, they wrote a book on an Italian Independence wars episode: Castelfidardo Battle. Book with the introduction of another club members the university professor: Mr Alessandro Barbero

The battle was fought on Sept 18, 1860 between the Sardinan and the Papal armies. In that year, Cavour, the Prime Minister of Piedmont, sent an ultimatum to the Pope demanding that he dismiss his foreign troops. The Pope refused to execute Cavour's order and so Sardinian General Cialdini moved 35,000 men against him.
As result of the battle the Marches and the Umbria (two Italian regions) entered into the new Kingdom of Italy.

Another proof that to be a wargamers it means not only to e a  good player but also a great  lover of the history

Milano Wargame 2018 – Feb 24, 2019

Also this year my club (La Piccola Armata) took part to Milano wargame. It is an Italian exhibition in which you can meet other wargame clubs that show their creations and some miniature manufacturers/dealers.

We presented a scenario inspired to Italian Independece wars using the rule system wrote by our club mate Paolo Montinaro: "Garibaldi, all'attacco!" (Chillemi edition).

Our scenario takes place in November 1860 with Garibaldi and the Piedmontese army that advance together to conquer the last stronghold of Kingdom of the two Sicilies: Gaeta. In this hypothetical scenario a Bourbon contingent try to slow down the enemy movement near Scari.

As I did in all the other editions I took photos of the tables prepared by other clubs. Below some imagines

Two scenarios prepared by Massimo Torriani.

A fantasy scenario created by Grande Armée and La Brocca Rotta using Kings of War rules

Some pictures of the Zulu wars scenario prepared by our friends of Garibaldi Club …

A Napolenic scenario created by I Cenomani using 15mm and En Avant Marche! Rule system

Some miniatures of Italian wars painted by Ares

Finally some miniatures painted and prepared by an Italian manufactures

Garibaldi all'attacco! - 3rd tournament - November/December 2018

Last week my club mates concluded the 3rd internal tournament using "Garibaldi all'attacco!" rule system.

It is a wargame written by another club member (Paolo Montinaro) and published by Chillemi Editore dedicated to Italian Independence wars. Paolo wrote a wargame system that can be easily played also at tournament level. Generally a game it takes from 1 to 2 hours and it is very easy to play keeping a good tactical level.

This year Massimo, Emanuele, Franco Be, Giovanni, Franco Bo, Alessandro, Bartolomeo and Valter played the different phases of the tournament ... below some pictures of their fights

At the end Massimo won with 625 points … Great work!!

Casale Monferrato – La Rocca Implacabile IV – June, 17 2018

On June 17, 2018 my club (“La Piccola Armata”) took part to La Rocca Implacabile IV, an exposition that held in the castle of Casale Monferrato. It was a local exhibition organized in cooperation with Casale Comics&Games and another club: I vendemmiatori implacabili that kindly invited us.

Below some pictures of the Castle of Monferrato. The castle is a 15th century military construction with a hexagonal plan and four round towers encircling by a moat

The exhibition was not dedicated to miniatures but to role play games and ghost players as it is possible to see below

Our stand was dedicated to Paolo Montinaro’s wargame expansion: “Garibaldini all’attacco!”

In addition to Castelfidaldo scenario we prepared also another table with some miniatures of different periods to help people to understand our hobby

Paolo published with Chillemi Editore the first expansion of his game dedicated to Italian independence wars but I’ll treat this topic in another post as is correct to do considering the great work (ie to write rules, play tests and so on) that my club mates did to prepare it.
The scenario prepared by Paolo (and re create for the exhibition) was Castelfidardo battle. A battle between Sardinian and Papal troops fought on Sept 18, 1860 that was permitted to new Italian kingdom to take control of Marches and Umbria.

Below some imagines of the miniatures and table prepared and painted by my mates.

During the day many persons decided to play with Paolo’s wargame and, considering that the event was not for miniature players, I have to point out that Paolo created a very good system rules
