Bolt action US Chaplain

In the second edition, Bolt Action introduced for US Army a new figure: the military chaplain. It is a useful unit because the chaplain may select one friendly unit within 6" and (applying the right modifiers) remove 1 pin.

Unfortunately it is hard to find miniatures suitable for this role ... luckly in our Club we have the right person for a challange as this: Maurizio.

He started with a preliminary study and ...

... then he modified a 1/72 miniature

The results are below

Ww2: 8th army - Bolt Action/Rapid Fire

The 20 mm scale is not one of my favorite one  but it easy and quick to paint. Some months ago I bought two boxes of 1/72 plastic Italeri and I prepared them as the British 8th army.
Before to paint them I did some search to be sure what kind of colors should been more realistic … and, at the end, the result is below

The 8th army was involved in different ww2 theatres but they became famous for their actions during the African campaign.

In the photo below there are some soldiers of the 8th army during Operation Lightfoot (Oct 1942) and one of them is armed with a Thompson submachine. Some of the miniatures have the same gun. Below one of them with an NCO.

Other miniatures are equipped with Bren as well as the men of the Greek company during in Africa

I painted also some Vickers teams and to prepare them I was inspired by the photos below

For the officers I decided to paint some of them as members of the 9th Australian HQ's

and to support the infantry I painted some churchill tanks too.

Black hawk down Zombie - Jan 2018

Maurizio is continuing with his Zombie project. At the beginning of January he completed some characters and a squad of regular troops to increase the range of his creations.

Below a zombie jester tries to break the barriers ...

... Elvies Spresley that walks again

and some zombie policemen

Maurizio does not paint the miniatures only but he prepared all the building and the other scenographic elements too.

Modifying a simple children's game he prepared scenario that seems a scene of "black hawk down"

and, with the same attention, he prepared some crashed vehicles to depict a barrier against the zombie hordes

Chain of command Test battle – Jan 13, 2018

Last Saturday Ezio, Riccardo and Ivano played a match using another ww2 rule system: Chain of Command.
It is a game system at platoon level with different phases (Patrol, Activation and so on) that it seems more tactical than Bolt Action.

The scenario they played was one of the scenario included into the base rule book. Mission was simple: the Americans have to break Germans defense reaching the opposite site of the table

Miniatures are 28mm and they are painted by:
- Americans by Ivano,
- Germans regular troops by Riccardo
and some Green Devils by me

I took some pictures.

This is the initial deployment during the patrol phase … it is possible to see the German markers on the table

An American squad advances …

… and his artillery observer takes position

German green devils open fire and block the American’s advance killing one of them Nco

Other two American squads advance but German does not permit them to move freely

The match ends with a German victory

TMWWBK – December, 23 2017

Before Christmas Ezio organized a battle using TMWWBK  and miniatures of the french indians wars. It is not the right period for this game system but he adapted a bit the rules and so they played a game.

We prepared a lot of miniatures for French-Indian wars and it will be a waste not to use them ... unfortunately I was on holiday that day so I couldn't play ... it will be for the next time.

The scenario was: Springs 1755, Ohio valley.  Bands of indians and their French allies continue raids against American villages and the troops of his Majesty have to defend them.

Miniatures are 28mm and are painted  by: Ezio, Riccardo, Maurizio, Giancarlo, Flavio, Marco T. and Alberto M.
For the game they prepared: 8 French and Indians units (96 miniatures) and 10 English-Militia companies (120 miniatures).

Nine players played the game (4 for the Frenches and 5 for the Crown). The objects were simple: the indians had to burn (at least) five houses while the troops of the Crown had to avoid it. Below some pictures of the game and a kind of battle report

Local militia are ready for Indians marauders ...

... while Indians, with their French allies, are approaching

Indians spread into the village and militia is not able to defend all the houses ...

... but reinforcement are on the road

and the fight continues house to house

My mates played the battle twice. The first time was an English victory while in the second one the Indians sack the village.

Vikings vignette

In 8th century, the raid on Lindisfarne is considered the start of Vikings attacks against England. The monastery of Lindisfarne was founded by an Irish monk about two centuries before and it becomes one of the most important Christian settlement in the north east cost of England

"Vikings attack Lindisfarne" by Tom Lovel
Today only ruins remain of the old church.

So when  Riccardo showed me his latest creation for SAGA I could't avoid to take some pictures and create a little vignette. Miniatures are 28mm and are all painted by Riccardo another member of my wargame club (La Piccola Armata)

Ruinded city scenario ... work in progress

In the last months, Flavio and Maurizio worked hard to create building, ruins etc fit to recreate a ruined city.

They inspire their work to Berlin, Stalingrad and other cities that, during the Ww2, suffered significantly of the war.

Stalingrad

Berlin
Below some imagines of the buildings created by Flavio …

… and a sample of the others scenographic elements created by Maurizio

Last Saturday Maurizio completed the street lamps and so they decided to prepare a table to understand what they have to create further. I cannot resist to take some pictures.

In this weeks, I’m preparing some 1/72 Italeri miniatures dressed with winter uniforms, with the English column kindly borrowed me by Ezio, I took some pictures
Fightings house by house

The English column is approaching but …

… some German soldiers are wainting him
